TSS Sea Dogs!

The Story of Schooner the Sea Dog
The Southport School stands in the coastal village of Southport, just steps from the harbor. Not far is a grand captain's house with a welcoming porch. The school sits where a school has sat for nearly 170 years. The home, slightly older, is where you'll find Schooner, a proud Sea Dog and cherished mascot of The Southport School.
Schooner is a legendary Sea Dog renowned for his exceptional navigational skills. A seasoned mariner who has sailed the vast oceans and braved all manner of storms with unwavering courage and determination, Schooner bears the name and embodies the spirit of the swift and versatile sailing vessels that once dominated Southport's waters. Like our students and alumni, Schooner epitomizes the celebrated traits of these classic ships: strength, agility, and versatility.
More than a mascot, Schooner stands on all fours as a beacon of tradition, exploration, and leadership. With bright eyes and an adventurous spirit, he mirrors our students’ adaptability and resilience, prepared to face future challenges with the same courage and determination he displayed at sea.
Recognizing the importance of education in navigating the modern world, the residents of Southport, staunch supporters of lifelong learning and a village school ensured that our historic building would forever be a school with Schooner as its mascot. Schooner is an inspiration to our students, encouraging them to sail confidently into the vast seas of their potential. He motivates them to navigate and thrive through the ever-changing conditions of their learning journeys, just as he once did on the waters of the Atlantic and beyond.
Schooner is a reminder of the courage, curiosity, and perseverance necessary to succeed—qualities deeply instilled in the students at The Southport School. As part of our school's crew, let Schooner’s Sea Dog spirit guide our academic pursuits, united in tradition and our commitment to learning.
